School Field Conversation at Pontgarreg Hall Community Coffee Morning

5 Volunteers from 4 Llan, together with Facilitator Teresa and Rural Housing Enabler Keith Henson, were at the Pontgarreg Hall Community Coffee Morning on Saturday December 6, to discuss the future of Pontgarreg’s School Field with local people and see if 4 Llan could offer a structure to shape and deliver residents’ plans.

There were around 100 people present during the morning, and we spoke with many of them.  We asked them what the community needed, what they wanted for the school field and who they thought should own or manage the land.

People were asked to vote with beans in jars for or against community ownership.  26 people left comments/ideas on post-it notes and record sheets, including a few who didn’t think the field would be suitable for homes.  21 people asked us to stay in touch to let them have a summary of ideas received.   We’re working on this now!

Residents said, overwhelmingly, that they would like to see the field owned by the community rather than by a private buyer or developer.  32 voted for community ownership and none against.  Most were keen to see a small number of affordable and sustainable homes built and some people were against the idea of housing for various reasons.  Many people mentioned supporting nature and providing space for recreation and no one was against these ideas.

A more detailed analysis will follow….
